On 5 May 1818 the German philosopher, economist, political journalist, revolutionary socialst and society critic Karl Marx was born in Trier. Marx is best known for “The Communist Manifesto” and “Das Kapital”, written in collaboration with Friedrich Engels while in exile in London. The political theory they developed would change the world. Marx's work in economics laid the basis for the current understanding of labor and its relation to capital, and has influenced much of subsequent economic thought.
However, Marx’s foundational analysis of the inequality created through the economics of capitalism remains for millions of people a way of understanding our world, explaining how and why it has changed, and providing the tools to undermine the capitalist class even today. He is not “responsible” for mistakes and atrocities committed in his name after his death.
To celebrate his birthday, here´s the three-volume "Das Kapital":

Hope you find the time...
Thanks for posting this Zero. Marx was a brilliant economic philosopher, his work is very relevant today.
Perhaps he was overly idealistic in his utopian vision of a classless society. As I get older more cynical, I realize that humans are too tribal and egotistical to create that kind of society. I agree you can’t blame Marx for evil “communist” dictators, any more than you can blame Adam Smith for my president’s accelerated destruction of democracy through state-sponsored capitalism (read: fascism).
If Das Kapital is too dense for some, may I suggest “Marx for Beginners” by the late, great Mexican political cartoonist Rius: https://archive.org/details/MarxForBeginners-English

Peacenik, you nailed it perfectly.
Not just tribal and egotistical, but spoiled and elitist.
