Odetta - Sometimes I Feel Like Cryin´ (1962)

Odetta was an American singer, guitarist, songwriter, and human rights activist, who was an important figure in the American folk music revival of the 1950s and '60s. She died December 2, 2008 in New York City.

"Sometimes I Feel Like Cryin’" (RCA, 1962) is one of Odetta´s finest albums. This bluesy masterpiece marked her first album for RCA Victor, and featured a superlative blues sound and repertoire influenced by blues pioneers like Bessie Smith and Blind Lemon Jefferson. While there is a distinct folk feel to some of the material, all of it is injected with the blues. Odetta’s voice was ideal for the slow, weighty blues of the 1920s, and she made the material her own, with no attempt at re-creation.
