Mark Aizikovitch - in jiddischn wort - Lieder verfolgter jüdisch-sowjetischer Dichter

Mark Aizikovitch, with his "In a Yiddish Word" (2000) ("in jiddischn wort"), demystified Jewish life in eastern Europe. Paying tribute to the Jewish poets murdered in the Soviet Union between 1933 and 1948, Aizikovitch´s record denoted the shtetl as a place of persecution.

Inspired by works of the writer Arno Lustiger on "Stalin and the Jews", Mark Aizikovitch has collected songs by Soviet Jewish poets, which bear witness to the life of the Jewish population in the Soviet Union from the thirties through the fifties. These are songs about exclusion and war, but also about love and big Jewish wedding parties. And again and again the songs celebrate the Russian homeland and Jewish culture.
