Cpt. Kirk &. - Reformhölle (1992)

"Cpt. Kirk &." was an indie band from Hamburg. It was one of those both political and cultural informed bands in the 90ies of the last century, when leftist activists and cultural protagonists tried to find a mutual way in opposition to the growing nationalism and racism in Germany.

The band was formed in 1984, Pinneberg, Schleswig-Holstein, Germany. as "Cpt. Kirk & his incredible Lovers" .Members were Tobias Levin (vocals, piano), Matthias Geisler (drums), Christoph Meier (bass) and Wiebke Linneweber (keyboards, guitar). They toured with Jesus And Mary Chain and The Gun Club.

Their second album "Reformhölle" featured strange and original indie rock and was one of the first records of the "Hamburger Schule". It sounds more like Soft Maschine or Slint than any pop music. Tobias Levin performs some almost tuneless vocal rants, and the jazz-like musical backing is unique. Some hip hop influences even are present.

Unfortunately the album has become very obscure despite its iconic status.
